In this No-Till Farmer podcast, "History and Insights from No-Till Pioneer Bill Richards" brought to you by Topcon Agriculture, we sat down with Bill Richards, known as the "Grandfather of No-Till" to discuss the storied history of no-till adoption and the major influencers who helped prove no-till is a viable, profitable farm practice.
More than 50 years ago, Richards contacted local extension agents from Ohio State University to gain information on no-till experiment they had conducted. He decided to modify some of his equipment and come in on the ground level of this new movement and as it stands today, is still one the major influencers who helped prove the no-till movement. Some of his equipment modifications are similar to those designs currently represented by today's major manufacturers.
Richards was also instrumental in establishing the residue management campaign in his county and spent time as chief of the Soil Conservation Service. Tune in to learn more about the history of no-till adoption and some of the equipment modifications he made to allow him to successfully no-till corn and soybeans and his continued promotion of the benefits of no-till in his travels in Ohio and beyond.
